History
It was the Spring of 1957, a time for an unexpected great opportunity for a route salesman selling bakery goods door-to-door. Before this great opportunity John Hodgins would usually leave for work before his children were awake and return after they were again in bed for the night. Even with these long hours there was still not enough money to get by …….. this was until the unexpected opportunity previously mentioned. On a weekend night where John just so happened to have time to read the Buffalo Evening news, John ran across an ad for the sale of a printing press and equipment. Even though he had no experience with business ownership or printing, John purchased the printing equipment with a $500 loan, and began what is now well known as Hodgins Printing.
Early customers included local churches and fire departments. Since John still did have very much experience he obtained jobs at the Medina Journal Register, Polish Daily Paper, then at the Buffalo Evening News. He used to gained experience at his shop which continued to grow. Eventually John moved his business which had run out of his barn to Batavia and renamed the business to “Batavia Press”. The business continued to grow right along with John’s family who eventually became a father to six children.
John’s son Michael graduated from Rochester Institute of Technology’s School of printing and came to work for his father. In 1985 when John decided to retire, the company was bought by his son Michael who continues to run the business to this day.
The business was moved to the Batavia Industrial Center where is can still be found, happily awaiting your business.
